Original Cast Album: Company
The cast recording for Stephen Sondheim's musical "Company" is often completed on the first Sunday following the show's opening night. The show premiered on Broadway in the spring of 1970. The now-famous documentarian D.A. Pennebaker documented the making of the original cast recording, the correspondence between Sondheim and the actors, and the challenges of capturing a live performance. Elaine Stritch's rendition of "The Ladies Who Lunch" serves as the movie's climax. The production, which lasted for two years on Broadway and received six Tony Awards, including "Best Musical," The idea of producing a number of "Original Cast Album" movies was never carried through.
