Artur Schnabel: No Place of Exile
Artur Schnabel, the exiled Austrian-German musician and composer, was a giant of his day, yet he is almost forgotten in his homeland today. Markus Pawlik, a pianist and Schnabel fan, delivers Artur Schnabel's best pieces to Berlin with a video commemoration concert (in partnership with baritone Dietrich Henschel and the Szymanowski String Quartet). Pawlik visits the places, landscapes, and history that influenced Schnabel's life and music along the journey. "Artur Schnabel: No Place of Exile" reintroduces a significant artist who was uprooted by the horrors of two World Wars and the Holocaust and inspired by modernism's possibilities.
