Portrait of Kaye
Kaye has spent most of her life confined to the house she grew up in due to her severe agoraphobia. She finds solace in the faces and stories of Hollywood legends that she pastes their photos next to those of her deceased relatives on the walls of her home, resulting in a psychedelic mashup of autobiography and fiction. Depiction of Kaye is a heartbreaking portrait of a lady finding her own unique identity while negotiating the competing influences of her mother's bawdy humor and her father's concerns, as told in the first person through freewheeling monologues. After being recently widowed at age 74, she finds herself falling in love with her next-door younger neighbor, which allows her to exercise previously unrevealed sexual and personal liberties. Ben Reed, a former next-door neighbor who is now a director of music videos, spent two years filming a moving meditation on family, cinema, and personal independence.
