Degrassi High
The third installment in the popular Degrassi series of teen dramas, Degrassi High follows the lives of a group of young people who reside on or close to De Grassi Street in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In the first run of the show, which aired from 1989 to1991, it followed the youthful characters from The Kids of Degrassi Street and Degrassi Junior High as they progressed through high school. The action of the program took place in the heart of downtown Toronto as well as on the campus of Centennial College. Degrassi High, much like its predecessor, tackled a wide range of contentious topics, including HIV/AIDS, abortion, abuse, alcoholism, cheating, sex, death and suicide, dating, despair, bullying, gay rights, homophobia, racism, the environment, substance misuse, and eating disorders. In the edition of u're Magazine published in September2007, the topic of the show's influence on the identity of Canadians is examined.
